Safe Parking Using the Bmw Remote Park Assist

After revealing the prototype system at the BMW Innovations Day in Munich last month, the German automobile maker had announced the release of their innovative safe parking technology called BMW Remote Park Assist. By August 2006, BMW owners will be able to park their BMW cars by using a remote control. This feature would also be able to increase the car’s child safety features.

The BMW Remote Park Assist allows BMW drivers to stand beside their car while it parks itself in the garage. BMW cars can be reversed or locked in place from its parking position using the driver monitoring pedestrian traffic. With this, the risk of reversing and bumping into children is reduced.

Vehicle guidance is being controlled by pressing a button on the remote key and the car moves at 2.5 km/hour. Smart sensors control the movement and these are assisted by a special mirror mounted in the garage. The sensors detect hurdles and prevent the car from hitting them, thus reducing the damage on BMW auto parts. When the button on the remote key is released, the car will stop moving.

Raymond Freymann, Head of Research and Technology of BMW Group, further explains how the BMW Remote Park Assist works: “The fully automatic garage parking assistant is a vehicle system which enables a vehicle to drive into a garage fully automatically. In order to enable this, we of course have to know where the vehicle is positioned relative to the garage. To this end, there is a camera mounted on the windscreen pointing ahead at the garage. On the back wall of the garage we attach a so-called “lenticular reflector”. This lenticular reflector gives us two pieces of information: firstly the distance of the vehicle from the back wall. If the camera sees the reflector in small size, this means it is a long way. If the camera sees the reflector in large size, this simply means that the vehicle is near the wall. Secondly you have a very clear view of the angle at which the camera is pointing at the reflector since there is a black line moving backwards and forwards. So you have two pieces of information – the size of the reflector and the angle relative to the back wall. Now the position of the vehicle is known and I can define the trajectories for the vehicle to move completely automatically into the garage. This is essentially the sensor system we have installed for the Automatic Park Assistant. Of course, what else do I need to control the whole operation? It has to be possible to control the engine and transmission electronically, I have to be able to operate the brake electronically from the vehicle and of course the accelerator too. But that’s all the systems I need so as to be able to have the vehicle drive into the garage completely automatically.”

BMW said that their innovative BMW Remote Park Assist system is ideal for restricted parking areas like apartment buildings and town houses.

I was robbed last night with my buddies keys to his car. So i need to replace it but i also want to change the remote coding so that they cannot try to steal it (since i was robbed very close to his house) what are my options? should i pay 300 for a dealer or do i have cheaper alternatives?
I also want to have the codes changed as i dont know if the thieves will come back to steal the car, would i be able to have the codes changed? Then i would get the alarm.

I have Dish Network, and don’t have my 322 receiver hooked to a phone line and I am not charge the $5/mth because I wrote an email to one of the execs and complained about it and they had the fee waived off my account.

I’ve never ordered pay per view, and I read this today on the FAQ on Dish Network’s site:

Why do I need a phone line connected to my Dish Network receiver?

A phone line connection is required in order to provide non-interrupted programming. The phone line will not interfere with your telephone use. If the Dish Network receiver is using the telephone line and someone picks up the telephone, the Dish Network receiver will immediately stop and try again later. The same will be done if a call is received. The Dish Network receiver will only use a toll free (800) number. This provides continuous access to DISH Network Pay-Per-View movies and events and allows use of the Customer Support Application and other Interactive TV applications on channel 100.

DISH Network Pay-Per-View purchases are stored within your receiver and limited to a specific purchase amount. The phone line connection allows your DISH Network Pay-Per-View purchases to download automatically and be processed by our computers. These purchases are then applied to your regular bill.

Being that I don’t have a phone line connected, can I order Pay Per View stuff for FREE since it will be stored in my receiver, but since there’s no phone line connection, it can’t download anything to dish network’s computers for processing???

3. Click on “Invite a friend to connect to your computer with Remote Assistance.”
4. Click on “Invite someone to help you.”
5. Click on “Save invitation as a file (Advanced).”
6. Fill in your name and then set how long you will want the invitation to remain active. I suggest at least 3 hours. Click Continue.
7. Require a password to be used by the remote support agent you are connecting with.
8. Click on “Save Invitation” and save it on your desktop or in My Documents so that you can easily find it.

Now all you have to do is send the invitation file you saved to the computer repair specialist via e-mail and provide them with the password you used. When they are ready to begin, you will receive a prompt asking you if you are ready to continue. Click yes and you’re good to go!

WINDOWS VISTA PROCEDURE:

1. Click Start Menu.
2. Click HELP AND SUPPORT.
3. Click “Use -> Windows Remote Assistance to get help from a friend or offer help.”
4. Click “Invite someone you trust to help you.”
5. Click “Save this invitation as a file.”
6. In the “Path and file name” field, browse to save the file on your Desktop or in My Documents where you can easily find it. Afterwards, set a password that you will share with the pc repair specialist.
7. A window will now appear for the Remote Assistance Application. Do NOT close this window. When the specialist is ready to proceed, you will receive a prompt!
